Raise your hand if you’re feeling like you’re struggling to keep it all together for yourself and your business? Welcome to the club! Female entrepreneur overwhelm is a serious epidemic that’s a seemingly unnecessary right of passage these days.
WHAT IS FEMALE ENTREPRENEUR OVERWHELM?
Well, if you’re reading this, chances are you’re already struggling with female entrepreneur overwhelm, so you’ll know if you have it, but just in case, here’s my completely non-medical definition:
The very frustrating feeling that you’re doing everything for nothing while getting nowhere. Unfortunately, this can apply to both your personal and business areas.
Everyone experiences it in different ways, and the degree to which the symptoms are felt can largely be dependent upon a number of factors such as: Having kids, toxic friends and family, unsupportive spouses and/or crappy bosses.
Due to the stresses that are placed on women (both at home and in the workplace) first-time female entrepreneurs are more likely to suffer from female entrepreneur overwhelm.
In addition, flair-ups may be exaggerated by listening to every other business guru who recommends: 5am Morning Routines and a new marketing or sales strategy every month.
HOW DO YOU SLAY THIS DRAGON AS A NEW FEMALE ENTREPRENEUR?
Well, the first thing is to understand that this is a chronic issue that there are no cures for. And it will require on-going management via a mixture of bossing-up, learning to say no, and building a business on your own terms.
If you’re still struggling, here are some tips I’d recommend:
MENTAL HEALTH AND WELL-BEING FIRST
Regularly scheduling in time where you do no work is crucial. We have a tendency to keep going all the time, we can’t shut it off. But whatever you didn’t get done today, you will get done tomorrow and please trust me when I say that everything that is supposed to happen in your business will happen in its own time.
STOP TRYING TO KEEP UP WITH THE JONES’
It is okay that you don’t wake up at 5am. It is okay that you don’t have a set work schedule. As long as you show up when you are supposed to for your clients and audience, that’s what counts.
Create a schedule that works for you and understand that your priorities (what’s most important to you) does not need to align with anyone else. If you prefer to sleep late and because you’re more productive in the evening then go for it.
Remember, you’re creating a lifestyle business!
DO WHAT YOU CAN, WHEN YOU CAN
Give yourself a break when it comes to getting things done or achieving major milestones in your business.
Remember that everything that is supposed to happen in your business i.e., 6-Figure Launches, and 10k Email Lists, etc. will happen when it’s supposed to and not a minute sooner.
So let go of the guilt that you didn’t get that blog post written, or you haven’t finished those course slides. Just keep on track with your schedule and strive to get closer to consistency.
